ABOUT ACADEMIC ANALYTICS

WHAT IS ACADEMIC ANALYTICS? Company found in 2005 to complement and supplement the National Research Council’s (NRC) assessment of doctoral programs. Their mission is to help universities by providing high quality, discipline-level data on faculty research outputs that administrators can use to support strategic decision making. They provide custom academic business intelligence data and solutions to research universities in the United States, the UK and Europe. Currently, they have 120 subscribers including 35 AAU members (including 22 AAU publics).

HOW DOES IT COMPARE TO OTHER PRODUCTIVITY DATA Udata Able to generate institutional reports on new data not captured in existing databases Web-based reporting solution and activity repository Used to generate CVs; biosketches; merit, faculty, and accreditation reports Data internal to U 3-year contract (through 2015) Elsevier Pure (formerly Experts) allows for searches on faculty expertise areas SciVal (pilot) provides information on emerging research and scholarship areas Data pertains to U; can be accessed from outside 3-year contract (through 2015) Academic Analytics Allows for comparative data collection across departments, disciplines, and Ph.D. programs within and outside the US Data pertains to faculty and academic programs U-specific and external data Audience primarily internal to U 2-year contract through 2015
