History University of Missouri School of Mines and Metallurgy was founded in 1870 First technological institute west of the Mississippi River Early curricula started as teaching the mining industry

History cont. By 1920’s, classes included mining, chemistry, physics, metallurgy, math, geology, and several types of engineering – Types of engineering included mechanical, civil, electrical, and chemical The school expanded slowly in the first 50 years

At the start of WWII, the demands for engineering increased, raising the college admissions The school changed from a mining school to a technological school during this time 1964- It changed to University of Missouri at Rolla 2008- Name changed to Missouri University of Science and Technology

Atmospheric Science An introductory class designed to acquaint engineering and science students with the fundamentals of atmospheric sciences. Main topics include the following: atmospheric aerodynamics, synoptic scale disturbances, atmospheric aerosols, atmospheric electricity, and radiative transfer.
