2 PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT PLANNING Competency 7 - All nurses must be responsible and accountable for keeping their knowledge and skills up to date through continuing professional development. They must aim to improve their performance and enhance the safety and quality of care through evaluation, supervision and appraisal NMC(2010).

4 PARTNERSHIP WORKING March 2012 – initial discussion, NHS Ayrshire and Arran, University of the West of Scotland and NHS Scotland. The Dean of Health, Nursing & Midwifery, UWS and the Associate Nurse Director, Mental Health Services, NHS Ayrshire & Arran fully supported the proposal being taken forward. Dedication and conviction to achieve objective.

5 THE JOURNEY – PAPER V ELECTRONIC Was this an idea worth pursuing, what did we hope to achieve? Who needed to be involved? What support did we need from NES? How should we introduce it and with whom? What guidance would be required? What training would be required? Timeframe for implementation/roll out? Audit process?

8 E-PORTFOLIO CHAMPION Each campus has a lecturer who is an e-portfolio champion. Their role is to: Support the student to set up their e-portfolio and to provide ongoing support to the student to continue to develop it

9 INCREMENTAL INTRODUCTION PRE-REGISTRATION BSC MENTAL HEALTH NURSING PROGRAMME STUDENTS All students on all campuses now have access and are developing their NES Career Long ePortfolio. 2015-16 Commenced with Part 1 students Ayr, Dumfries, Hamilton and Paisley. Continue with Part 2 Ayr, Dumfries, Hamilton and Paisley and Part 3 Ayr. 2014 -15 Commenced with Part 1 students Ayr, Dumfries, Hamilton and Paisley. Continue with Part 2 Ayr students. 2013-14 Project commenced at Ayr UWS campus in September with the BSc Mental Health Nursing programme Part 1 students 2012 -13

12 FUTURE STEPS Ethical approval has been obtained to undertake an evaluation study of the pilot project. This will include students from the initial cohort, lecturers/personal tutors and mentors who have been involved with this process.
