4 Lesson 1: Creating an ‘Attitude of Gratitude’ Course: Grade 10 Civics CHV 2O Unit: Social Responsibility: Think Globally, Act Locally Outcome: Students will have the awareness and appreciation for the differences between WANTS and NEEDS. They will understand the Fundamental RIGHTS of a child. (United Nations Convention on Rights of the Child). They will begin to engage in thoughts on social responsibility.

6 What is a ‘Right’? Step Two: What is a ‘Right’? – Partner discussion (5 minutes) Step Three: Class Discussion -Teacher creates list on board with student responses (10 minutes) Teacher questions: -What are wants? -What are needs? -Which of these are Rights?

7 Creating an Attitude of Gratitude Interactive activity demonstrating some of the fundamental rights Discussion Questions: -What did you notice? -What needs were not met? -How did you feel? -How did the larger/smaller group experience this task?
