The United States Foster Care System should be reformed Insufficient number of foster families Inadequate support of the physical and mental needs of the children Poor outcomes for those who age out of the system

According to the Congressional Coalition on Adoption Institute: 17,900,000 orphans in orphanages and group homes Orphanages and group homes lack care and concern provided in foster care Children are at a greater risk of diseases, malnutrition and death Children are shown on average to be 20 IQ points lower

Statistics (2014) 40% homeless 60% of men convicted of crimes 48% unemployed 50% have substance abuse problems 25% did not receive high school diploma or GED 6% finished 2-4 year degree

Solutions Improve methods of recruitment (Myslewicz and Garcia). Foster Care support groups for the children (Hasenecz). Reform some of the rules to allow for more normal lives (Hasenecz). More scholarship opportunities (Lips). House Bill 50 should be adopted by all states (The Ohio Legislature). Spread awareness (Hasenecz).
