2 The Guide to College Counseling INTRODUCTION The purpose of a college counselor plan is to set goals step by step for your students (9 th -12 th grade) that will get them prepared to graduate from high school and ready for college.

4 COLLEGE CENTER A College Center is a center for providing resources for high school students. Things you should have in a college center: College Guides Scholarship opportunities College flags College resources Fliers Posters Career opportunities Deadlines

5 THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION IS MEANT TO PREPARE COLLEGE BOUND HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS FOR THE NEXT LEVEL.

6 9 TH GRADE THE START TO THE REST OF YOUR LIFE

7 9 TH GRADE “TO-DO” LIST Summer Orientation Set up individual meeting to get to know your college counselor (Fall) Fill out personal surveys Go over educational goals Register for the PSAT (Fall Semester) Go over transcripts to see if you are on the “A-G requirement” track(winter/spring) Take the ACT EXPLORE exam

8 10 TH GRADE YOUR ALMOST HALF WAY THERE!!!

9 10 TH GRADE “TO-DO” LIST Follow-up going into Sophomore year (Fall) Check on how the end of the 9 th grade went Register for the PSAT (Fall) Register for the SAT (Fall) Register for the PLAN exam (fall) Register for the ACT (Fall) Update high school course planner (fall)
