4. Formation of the Washington District
the members of the Watauga Association organized themselves into the extra-legal "Washington District", a separate region "loyal to the united colonies”
"Washington District" was used to refer to North Carolina's holdings west of the Appalachian Mountains.

5. Last Beloved Woman of the Cherokees, Nancy Ward was born in 1738 at Chota and given the name Nanye-hi, which signified "One who goes about," a name taken from Nunne-hi, the legendary name of the Spirit People of Cherokee mythology.
Cherokee Wars
Settlers fought with Cherokee Indians in a series of conflicts known as the Cherokee Wars.
Cherokee Nancy Ward, helped settle differences between settlers and natives.
She later settled into white settlements and was given an American name.

7. Transylvania Purchase
1775, North Carolina judge Richard Henderson signed the Sycamore Shoals and Watauga Petitions with Cherokees to accept the settlement of new land in present-day Kentucky.
Henderson had paid Daniel Boone to explore the land, Boonesborough became the capital of Transylvania.

11. Fort Nashborough
Was founded by James Robertson and John Donelson in the spring of 1779 in the French Lick area.
Later named Nashville.
May 13, The Cumberland Compact was signed- some believe this is the foundation to the Tennessee State Constitution.
Robertson and Donelson had male settlers first settle along the Cumberland river and in time had the settlers wives and children brought by river and trail which also came with many attacks by natives.
Many of these journeys where during an extremely brutal winter.
Natives attacked Nashborough with the most famous being the Battle of the Bluffs.
The Chickamauga Cherokee (Lower Cherokee) were led by Dragging Canoe, who lured almost all the men outside of the fort before attacking them.
The settlers survived and attacks tapered off the following years.
