L.E.A.P LUNCH * ENERGIZE * ACHIEVE * PARTICIPATE

CHS Mission: In partnership with our community, CHS’s mission is to excite the mind and challenge students to excel in a climate of respect and support, and to facilitate student growth socially, emotionally, physically and intellectually. Studies show that students who are socially connected achieve higher academic outcomes and report social well being. Our students have shared repeatedly that they feel stressed out Balancing rigorous courses, homework schedules, work schedules, and family and community commitments has left students without time to “recharge”. Allows for student growth socially, emotionally, physically and intellectually. Eliminates 4 th hour classes being interrupted for lunch

The Purpose: https://youtu.be/UUJk_6f1-rw LEAP will be offered as a 60 minute block of time over the lunch hour that will offer students and staff opportunities to come together to study, connect, enjoy lunch, and recharge with others who share similar interests. This is NOT AN OPEN CAMPUS during LEAP! Video

Frequently Asked Questions Q: Where can students eat their lunch? A: We will create a map with LEAP friendly areas highlighted for students and staff. We are working with district staff (food services, building maintenance) to ensure we will have necessary changes needed to have a “grab and go” lunch.

Frequently Asked Questions Q: Can a club or activity that already exists meet during LEAP? A: Yes – but clubs or activities cannot be mandatory for students to attend during LEAP. Q: Can everyone eat at the same time? A: Yes, but it would be very difficult for everyone to get through in 10 minutes – it is ok to grab lunch later and go back to a connection.

Frequently Asked Questions Q: How many people are needed to run a connection? A: 2-3 consistent participants Q: How do students find out what connections the school has? A: There will be lists posted around the school, outside teacher classrooms and on the website.

Frequently Asked Questions Q: What if I/my child have a connection idea? A: Reach out to a teacher you think might be interested or talk with Mrs. Baland and she will work with staff to find a supervisor. Q: Can I go to my car? Can I leave campus? What if I get in trouble during LEAP? A: No cars, no leaving. If you misbehave, you will lose your opportunity to participate in LEAP. This is NOT AN OPEN CAMPUS!

LEAP This is an opportunity we are creating for students! The continuation of this opportunity depends on students!

Now what? Summer/Fall: Watch our website for teacher LEAP schedules with connection offerings. Talk with your student(s) about what opportunities this will provide them and encourage participation!
