LATEST DEVELOPMENTS Egypt Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade New system to enforce the protection of trademarks and limit the infringement acts Through a smartphone application or sending an SMS, the consumer will be able to verify instantly if a certain product is original or not Verification message will include the product's name and the expiry date Trademark owners can place a “sticker” put on all the products that are sold in the Egyptian market and registered at the Egyptian Trademarks Office Ministry of Trade and Industry Decree 43/2016: amending the rules organising the registration of factories qualified to export certain products to Egypt Requires factories and companies to export listed products and to register their trademarks with the General Organisation for Export and Import Control (GOEIC)

TRADEMARK PROTECTION OVERVIEW Algeria, Egypt, Morocco, Tunisia : Multiple-Class Applications. Libya, Sudan : Single Class Applications. Libya, Sudan : Goods in Class 33 & 32 cannot be registered. Opposition procedures (opposition period between 30 and 90 days) are available in all countries; except for Algeria. Use is not required for registration or renewal, except for Algeria (renewal). Registration vulnerable to cancellation by any interested party in the event of 3-5 years of non- use. All are member of the Madrid Agreement; except for Libya.
