The symbols of the country - The British national flag is called Union Jack ● ● It is a combination of St George's (EN) ● St Andrew's (SC) ● and St Patrick's Cross (IR) ● The national anthem is „God Save the Queen“ ● St George is the patron saint of England

The religion ● The British are mostly protestant ● In 1543 the Church of England was established ● Priests in the Anglican Church are allowed to get married ● Since 1987 also women can serve as priests

Population ● The original inhebitants were the Celts ● Official language is English ● Celtic languages are spoken in Scotalnd, Cornwall, Welsh in North and West Wales ● The total population of the UK is 63 million ● 90% white, 2% Indian, 1,5% Pakistani, 1,2% Irish, 1% Black Carribean, 1% Black African, 1% Asians ● People are from various ethnic groups

History ● Original inhabitants were Celts ● The country was occupied by the Celts, Romans, Germanic tribes of the Angles, Saxons and Jutes ● On of the most important kings was William the Conqueror ● He defeted king Harold in the Battle of Hastings ● Normans were French-speaking Germans ● The other famous king is Henry VIII (reigned 1509-1547) ● He had six wives ● Elizabeth I., the Virgin Queen (reigned 1558-1603) ● Duaghter of Henry VIII
