2. Suzanne Collins was born on August 10, 1962 in Connecticut. Her father was an Air Force officer in the Vietnam War, so she was always moving. She graduated from Indiana University with a degree in drama and tech communications. Since 1991, she has been writing for children’s television shows. She has wrote shows for Clarissa Explains It All, The Mystery Files of Shelby Woo, Oswald, Little Bear, Wow! Wow! Wubbzy!, and Clifford’s Puppy Days. She met a children’s author named James Proimos who got her started on writing books. She started out with the book series The Underland Chronicles, which made her book career soar. Suzanne then wrote the international best-selling trilogy, The Hunger Games, which made her internationally known. In the Hunger Games trilogy includes, The Hunger Games, Catching Fire, and Mockingjay.

3. Let the 74 th annual Hunger Games…begin! In the story, The Hunger Games, twenty-four tributes, one girl and one boy from each district, are selected to participate in the 74 th annual Hunger Games, which is a fight to the death. No one wants to be in the Hunger Games, but they absolutely have to because of an uprising that happened in the Capitol 74 years ago. There were 13 districts in the ruins of what used to be called North America, and they all tried to rebel against the omnipotent Capitol, which resulted in the making of the Hunger Games and district 13 being completely destroyed. From district 12, tribute Peeta Mellark, a sixteen-year-old baker’s son, and Katniss Everdeen, who volunteers for her sister Prim in the reaping.

4. Before you go into the Hunger Games, there is a lot of training you must do. First you go to the capitol and meet your mentor. In district 12, their mentor is Haymitch Abernathy, who was once a victor, but now an alcoholic. Once they are at the Capitol, they have to go through a lot of training before they go into battle. They have interviews, parades, and even a training session, where the game makers evaluate you and give you a score on your battle skills. The tributes hear the voice counting down by sixty seconds. Sixty seconds until they battle to stay alive. Twenty four tributes between the ages of 12-18 go in, only one comes out. Twenty three tributes will lose their lives, and only one will become Victor, and they will have riches and fortune come back to their district.

5. Who will it be? Will it be Katniss Everdeen, the girl on fire, who knows her way around with a bow and arrow? Will it be Peeta Mellark, the strong baker from district 12? Will it be Thresh or Rue from District 11? Maybe it’s the girl or boy from district 7. It will probably be the career tributes from districts 1, 2, or 4, who win it almost every single year. It could be, but you never know. This book is filled with suspense, love and survival, and I promise you, once you start reading it, you won’t be able to stop.
