2 2 Matilda is very smart girl.

3 3 She taught herself how to read by the time she was three years old!

4 4 Matilda’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wormwood did not think reading was good.

5 5 Matilda walked to the library everyday when her mother went to play BINGO.

6 6 Matilda read all the children’s books in the library!

7 7 She read even some grown-up books too!

8 8 Matilda’s parents were not impressed and wanted her to go watch TV.

9 9 Matilda’s parents are really mean.

10 10 Her dad sells old cars.

11 11 He tricks people into thinking they are new but they are really about to break down.

12 12 Mr. Wormwood only tells his son, Michael, about the business.

13 13 Matilda knows that her dad is doing the wrong thing.

14 14 Matilda’s family eats dinner in front of the TV and they do no talk to each other.

15 15 Matilda is tired of her dad being mean to her so she hatches a plan!

16 16 Matilda’s dad wears a silly hat everyday.

17 17 When her dad is not looking, Matilda puts super glue on the inside of it.

18 18 Mr. Wormwood cannot get the hat of his head!

19 19 Mrs. Wormwood has to cut it right off his head!

20 20 Matilda’s parents are still being mean.

21 21 Matilda borrows her friend’s parrot that can talk.

22 22 Matilda puts the parrot in the chimney and it starts talking.

23 23 The family thinks that there is a ghost in the house!

24 24 One day, Mr. Wormwood made lots of money selling cars.

25 25 He wanted his son to add up how much money he made that day.

26 26 Matilda was able to solve the problem right before her brother started.

27 27 Mr. Wormwood though Matilda was cheating!

28 28 One day, Matilda puts blonde hair dye in her father’s hair oil.

29 29 Mr. Wormwood’s hair turns grey!

30 30 Mr. Wormwood is even more angry!

31 31 It is now time for Matilda to go to school.

32 32 Her teacher’s name is Miss Honey.

33 33 Miss Honey is very nice.

34 34 Matilda shows the class that she is very smart!

35 35 Miss Honey wants to tell the headmistress, Miss Trunchbull that Matilda is super smart!

36 36 Miss Trunchbull is really mean!

37 37 She hates children and thinks they are bad!

38 38 She does not believe Miss Honey at all.

39 39 Miss Honey thinks she should tell Mr. and Mrs. Wormwood how smart Matilda is.

40 40 Mr. and Mrs. Wormwood get mad because Miss Honey interrupted their TV show.

41 41 They don’t believe Miss honey either!

42 42 At school, Matilda makes friends with Lavender.

43 43 In the playground they see Miss Trunchbull pick up a girl and swing her by her pigtails!

44 44 Then all the students in the school needed to go to an assembly.

45 45 They had to watch a boy eat a whole cake because he stole one slice from Miss Trunchbull!

46 46 He looked like he was going to be sick!

47 47 Lavender wanted to play a joke on Miss Trunchbull.

48 48 So Lavender put a newt in her water jug!

49 49 Miss Trunchbull came into Miss Honey’s class to see what the children learned and saw the newt.

50 50 She was so mad!

51 51 Miss Trunchbull thought Matilda did it!

52 52 Matilda was so mad that she made the water glass tip over and get Miss Trunchbull all wet.

53 53 Matilda has magic brain powers!

54 54 Matilda told Miss Honey what had happened and they went to her house.

55 55 Miss Honey is very poor. She lives in an old cottage with no heat or running water!

56 56 Miss Honey tells Matilda about her mean aunt that took all her money.

57 57 Miss Honey’s mean aunt is Miss Trunchbull!

58 58 Matilda has a plan!

59 59 The next week Matilda uses her powers again.

60 60 She makes the chalk write by itself!

61 61 She makes the chalk tell Miss Trunchbull to give Miss Honey back her money.

62 62 Miss Trunchbull gets so scared that she runs away!

63 63 Miss Honey gets to move back into her old house and is happy.

64 64 One day, Matilda’s parents said they were moving to Spain.

65 65 They needed to run away because Mr. Wormwood was a crook and in trouble with the law.

66 66 Matilda didn’t want to go so she went to live with Miss Honey.

67 67 And they lived happily ever after!

If you could move one thing with your mind, what would you move? Do you think any of Matilda's pranks are mean? Or do you think she was right to do them? Did Mr. Wormwood and Miss Trunchbull deserve it?

(hopefully yours doesn’t get stuck on your head!) A toy newt! (Not a real one!) A cup! (Can you tip it over with your mind?) A piece of chalk! (Does yours need your help to write?) What else can you put in your bag?
