1 Number 4 Friday 11 th November Carbon Count Programme We have started in earnest on our aim to reduce our carbon count and we have now established an eco-council. They are working closely with Mrs Harrison to look at ways of making our school more eco friendly and energy efficient and have already put stickers on light switches to ensure we all think about whether lights are left on unnecessarily. The council will meet and work together with staff and children to encourage energy savings. Mrs Mansfield's sister visited school and led an assembly talking about ways to save energy and showed us some interesting gadgets like a wind up radio and torch. Parents Evenings Thank-you for attending parents meetings, we hope you found them informative and we thank-you for your continued support. Friends of Dean School FODS AGM is on Tuesday 15 th November at 7pm in school. All welcome – please come and support us! Cross Country Some of our KS2 children took part in a cross country event at St Benedict's, Whitehaven last week. They all ran extremely well and Olivia Mason in Year 5 was the ‘first girl’ winner so well done to her. Shoe Box Appeal Thank-you to everyone who has donated a shoe box so far – they will be collected next Tuesday 15 th November. Harvest Appeal Thank-you to everyone who supported our Harvest Festival either by attending or by donating items of food for our appeal. Mrs Huddart and Mrs Martin delivered 6 large boxes of food to the Foodbank store in Cockermouth. The produce is stored and used to feed local people / families when they find themselves in difficulty. The lady tells us they are feeding around 100 people at the moment so all donations are very worthwhile. Well done to the children for a super Harvest assembly where we said thank-you for all the lovely food we have to choose from and eat. Children in Need We are supporting Children In Need on Friday 18 th November and children may come to school in non-uniform with our theme being ‘spots or stripes.’ Donations of £1 towards this worthwhile cause would be welcome on that day. Family Service There will be an Advent family service at St Oswald’s Church on Sunday December 4 th, followed by a bring and share lunch. Some children will be singing and playing instruments. ALL WELCOME! Remembrance We held a special assembly today to think about why we wear poppies and the importance of remembering. Mrs Stubbs provided us with a war time lunch of bacon hotpot with cabbage and jam sponge and custard.
