CATHERINE THOMAS FUNction Project

Real World Problem- Parker and his friends want to go watch the play “ The Importance of Being Earnest”. The cost of the tickets are $12.50 each. How much will it cost in total if he meets 7 friends at the theater?

The Equation- My problem’s equation is…. Y= 12.50 or f(x)=12.50x X= Total amount of tickets (8) Y= Total cost

Independent and Dependant- My independent variable is x or the number of tickets. My dependant variable is y or the cost of the tickets. Y depends on X, so the cost of the tickets depends on the number of tickets.

Domain and Range- Domain(X) :{ 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8} Range(Y) :{ 12.5o, 25, 37.50, 50, 62.50, 75, 87.50, 100} Is this a function? Yes this is a function, because the all of the X values are different. R A DOMAIN G E

Graph-

Discrete or continuous- Is the Domain discrete or continuous? The domain is discrete, because the points aren’t connected by a line. There aren’t any points between the cost of one ticket and another. The cost of one ticket is going to stay the same.

Conclusion- The cost of a ticket for one person is $12.50. If Parker meets 7 other friends at the theater, the total cost of all 8 would be $100.
