Common vs. Proper Nouns Common Nouns: everyday names of persons, places, things, and ideas. - No capitalization needed Proper Nouns: specific names of persons, places, things, and ideas. - Capitalization required

- Compound Nouns - consist of more than one word, but count as one item/noun - Examples: Northern Kentucky University

- Collective Nouns - Can sometimes be counted as one unit (singular) and other times be counted as separate units (plural) - Examples: Army, pack, family
