Possessive Determiners How do we use them?

Possessive Determiners Are used like adjectives before a noun They tell you who possesses or owns something Examples of possessive determiners: o Jack is in his bedroom. o I have lost my favourite book. o The dog carried its young puppies into the kennel. o They took off their dirty shoes before entering the house.

Possessive Determiners First person: my (singular), our (plural) Second person: your (singular & plural) Third person: his, her, its (singular), their (plural)

Possessive Pronouns Used to replace a phrase made up of a possessive determiner and a noun Usually stand alone Used to avoid repetition of a noun that has already been mentioned Example of possessive pronouns: o I’ve already bought my lunch. Has John bought his? (= his lunch) o Those rackets are ours. (= our rackets) o The men said that the van was theirs. (= their van)
