Cultures in the past They rule by tribal chief. Maori called themselves “ People of the Lava. ” Families live together in huts Each tribe has a chief The main source of transportation is “ Canou “ The key values of their culture is : spiritually, land, hospitality, and ancestor. Their culture involve food, clothing, and arts

Changes of cultures The Maori culture has changed because of the very small numbers of Europeans who visit NZ in the 18 century and early 19 century Before European arrived in NZ Maori had a diet of seafood and birds for protein, and imported crops. These crops, carried across the Pacific by their ancestor.

Cultures in present The culture still play a big part in the lives of many modern Maori in NZ are an intrinsic part of kiwi culture for NZ

Changes Maori lost much of their land through european colonisation and over the past decades some have been comepensated for their loss.

Present day Now, many Maori lives in urban areas, away from their tribal regions, their marae remains an integral part of their life. The statistic from the NZ census ( 2006 ) One in seven people in NZ were Maori Nearly nine in 10 Maori lived in north island The Maori population had grown 7,4 % over the last 5 years

Past about belief In the past Maori believe in gods which represent the sky, forest, earth, and forces of nature. They also believe that the spirit of their ancestor could be called upon the help them in times of need or War. Maori believe system are : dynamic, derived partly from a religious base, central Maori life.

Changes When European colonized NZ the European spread their religions like Christian and Catholic, so in the present times many of the people believe in Christian and Catholic and a small beliefs of Maori.

Present about beliefs Today maori tend to be followers of presby terianism, the church of Jesus Christ of latter day of Maorichristian groups such as Ratana and ringatu, but with catholic, anglica and methodist groupings also promonent. There is also a very communities of Maori Muslim.

Economic present The economic of Maori has worthed $ 16.5 billion in 2005 / 2006. they owned commercial assets that : 52% were invested in primary industries processing primary products. 8% in secondary industries-processing primary products. 40%tertiary industries-service industries, particularly tourism.

Past Maori lives internal areas and were mainly engaged in the household production of food crops, hunts, fishing and trading. The maori economy based on a barter system Hapu (subtribes) and Iwi ( tribes )exchanges goods or a regular basis.
