2 Syllabus Mrs. Christine Kiser Room 2-219 Phone 352-787-7868 Conferences are set through the Guidance office Text: Glencoe Florida Physical Science Lab Donation: $5.00 Course Description: The purpose of this course is to provide educational experiences through the exploration of Physical Science. This course includes, but is not limited to textbook work, lab experiments, projects, and tests. Learning Goal: To improve students understanding of the above mentioned areas through the discipline of science and the scientific method. Requirement: Students will: Bring all necessary materials to class each day. Participate in all class work and complete homework activities on time. Keep a notebook containing notes, handouts, lab experiments and test information. Notebooks will be checked at least one time per unit studied. Evaluation: Progress reports will be sent home after 4 ½ weeks and a reports card at the end of the 9 weeks. Any students with missing assignments at progress report time will have until the following Monday to makeup the missing assignment for a grad no higher than a 60. The best way to succeed is to be here regularly and complete all work to the best of your ability. SEMESTER EXAMS WILL MAKE UP 10% OF THE SEMESTER GRADE. The grades will be weighted as follows: Tests 30% Labs 30% Quizzes & Notebook 20% Classwork & Homework 20% Grading Scale: A = 90-100, B= 89-80, C=70-79, D=60-69, F=59 and below Homework policy: Students will be required to finish and turn in homework when assigned by the teacher. This may involve completing unfinished class work, organizing paperwork or completing an assignments form their Interactive Notebook handout as a form of reflection on the current day’s content. All assignments should be completed by the next day.

4 Projects Every student will do a science fair project Start thinking about them now! One project per quarter Student chosen from teacher assigned list 2 nd quarter will be the science fair project

7 Class pets Our class is lucky enough to have a bearded dragon and fish…with hopefully more to come! As with any animal, our lizard does have the potential to bite. We will take all precautions necessary and will learn how to handle him correctly. Parental permission, in writing, will be required for any student who wishes to participate in the everyday chores needed to take care of our pets. Students without permission will be able to observe, but not touch our pets.
