2 GENERAL INFORMATION  We will begin with pre-history and the dawn of humans to the 1500’s.  New book; Holt World History; Human Legacy  This is an in-depth class and students need to be willing to do more work and more reading to achieve success.  Homework needs to be completed so work in the class can add to knowledge.

3 Top Ten Things We Will Emphasize:  Geography Skills; locations, reading maps, extracting information from maps, such as topographic, absolute location.  Primary Sources; biographical information, diaries, first-hand accounts.  Writing is a key component in class. It is a skill student’s will use for the rest of their lives!

4 Top Ten Things We Will Emphasize:  Interpreting Political Cartoons; this is a key skill that is frequently on the SAT and AP exams.  Oral Presentations; both solo presentations and the use of Socratic Seminars.  Critical Thinking skills; using student’s knowledge and applying it in various points in history.

5 Top Ten Things We Will Emphasize:  Research Skills by use of term papers, and executive summaries.  Cooperative Learning by using small groups and in-class groups.  Use of period literature to allow students to connect to the past.  Applying problem solving with the use of simulations and generating their own solutions to historical problems.
