4 Who plays what role? A number of stakeholders involved: – Teachers – Counsellors – Students – Other Service Providers Each has various contributions to make, but the career choice is solely the students’ choice The following roles are recommended and not prescribed Teachers Counsellors Student

5 Students What the students will learn through the activities Learning about yourself and work Learning about the world of work Labour Market Making Decisions Goal Setting and Pathways Counsellor and Teacher – transfer skillsStudent – independent learning Example: Goal Setting and Pathways To be built from the language learnt and the information from the class talks.

6 CD Student Worksheets Learning about yourself and work – activities include self-analysis of skills, interests, needs, life circumstances, life balance, aspirations, knowledge Learning about the world of work – activities include job analysis; labour market analysis - occupations, job requirements; training and education requirements; industry growth; employers. Making decisions – activities include reality testing, decision making and identifying obstacles; and may look at both available and unavailable options to support the making of realistic choices Goal setting and Pathway Planning – Activities include identifying options that are available now and in the future; writing a plan which includes the most realistic and achievable options; short and long term planning

10 Needs Analysis - Skills audit The purpose of this is to help you explore your interests, values, skills and preferences, as well as looking at work and learning options available to you.

11 Overseas Qualification Unit (OQU) If you have a certificate, diploma or university degree from your country, you can have it assessed and recognised in Australia by the OQU. Please see a counsellor for advice.

12 Free translation of documents Would you like to translate any of the following documents? Birth certificate Marriage certificate/ divorce certificate Driver’s licence One education certificate Employment reference Your children’s immunisation records Talk to the office staff to see if you are eligible
