JOSEPH GROVE2 HICKMAN (PASCHAL1) was born Abt. 1803 in Georgia. He married (1) MARGARET HARTLEY March 31, 1852 in Madison County, Illinois. She was born Abt. 1814 in Georgia. He married (2) SARAH ANN CURTIS February 17, 1856 in Clinton County, Illinois. She was born Abt. 1836 in Clinton County, Illinois. Marriage Notes for JOSEPH HICKMAN and MARGARET HARTLEY: The marriage record for Joseph Grove Hickman and Margaret Hartley was recorded in Madison County, Illinois in 1852. Interestingly, the 1850 census list Margaret in the household with Josepph Grove Hickman and four children. 1. Clemmens age 11; 2. Paskal age 9; 3. Susan age 6; and 4 Elizabeth age 6 months. According the 1880 census for Clinton County, Illinois, C.G. Hickman (Clemens) age 41 lists his mother's birthplace as Ireland. According to oral history, this family does claim Irish (European) ancestry. If Margaret was of Irish descent, then her marriage to Joseph Grove Hickman would have been illegal in Georgia, therefore they legalized their union in Illinois. (This is a theory) Children of JOSEPH HICKMAN and MARGARET HARTLEY are: i. CLEMENS3 HICKMAN, b. Abt. 1839. ii. PASKAL HICKMAN, b. Abt. 1841. iii. SUSAN HICKMAN, b. Abt. 1844. iv. ELIZABETH HICKMAN, b. Abt. 1849. v. CAROLINE HICKMAN, b. Abt. 1853. Grove and Margaret Hickman
