2. Rule #1(ownership) Add an apostrophe and –s to show possessive form of SINGULAR nouns: (they do not end in s already) 1 dog = dog’s life 1 girl= girl’s sweater 1 desk=desk’s top

3. Rule #2(ownership) Add just an apostrophe to show the possessive of PLURAL nouns that DO end in –s or –es 2 or more girls = girls’ 2 or more actors roles = actors’ 2 or more dogs = dogs’

4. Rule #3(ownership) Add an apostrophe and –s to show the possessive of PLURAL nouns NOT ending in –s: Group of people = people’s vote Group of women = women’s children Group of mice= mice’s home

5. Rule #4 (ownership) Add and apostrophe and –s with indefinite pronouns to show ownership: Someone’s cookie Everybody’s pizza Anyone’s guess Each other’s password

6. Rule #5 (ownership) DO NOT USE COMMAS for possessive pronouns: My Mine Our Ours You, your His Her/Hers Its Their/theirs

Rule #6 (contractions) Verb + not – is not =isn’t – Are not = aren’t – Will not = won’t Pronoun + will – I will =I’ll – He will = he’ll – We will = we’ll Pronoun/noun + be form – I am = I’m – They are = they’re – Jack is = Jack’s Pronoun/noun + would – you would = you’d – We would = we’d – Terry would = Terry’d
