Growing Bible Study Part One

Review God has revealed Himself God has given His commandments We must do His commandments We must know the will of God and do it. By application we can know God in a more personal relationship than we have with others. Now, let us grow.

Growth We are commanded to grow (2 Peter 3:18) But are we taught how to grow? The Bible answer is YES. This study should help us develop the skills of Bible study whereby we may be called Bible Students. Bible study alone will do no good. We must learn to apply what we learn.

Study the right thing. Many people study different things. But the most important thing is to study God and what God has revealed to man. Since the Bible is God’s revelation, We should study the Bible for our good.

The Bible The greatest book ever written By over forty different writers Over 1600 years Yet it is without error or contradiction The various differences are explained from the various viewpoints. Example: The crucifixion of Christ; Matthew Mark Luke John all different, but all are accurate.

The Bible God’s message to man. Is truth. Is the foundation of truth in spiritual matters. Has the answer to all things spiritual. When we learn it, we know God and His works, will, and wishes.

Methods of Bible Study There are various ways to do this. Reading the word, over and over can help, But a lot of people read, and do not seek the truth. Some read it for pleasure, Some read it because it is the Bible, but they are not seeking to apply it’s precepts. Some read it to learn.

Let’s Get Started Bible Study should begin with prayer. Pray that we learn and have the courage to make necessary changes. Pray that we can learn to live according to it’s precepts. Pray that we understand the message. Pray that we want to know more about God so that we can serve Him better.

Nehemiah 8:1-3 “And all the people gathered as one man at the square which was in front of the Water Gate, and they asked Ezra the scribe to bring the book of the law of Moses which the LORD had given to Israel. Then Ezra the priest brought the law before the assembly of men, women and all who could listen with understanding, on the first day of the seventh month. And he read from it before the square which was in front of the Water Gate from early morning until midday, in the presence of men and women, those who could understand; and all the people were attentive to the book of the law.,

Most people only heard Today we have bibles in our possession. We have translations, electronic media, tapes, CD’s, preaching, and other means. Times past, they had very few. Apparently they did not make a lot of copies of the book. They basically kept one copy, and they would have to replace it after several years. It was not available for many. We are so blessed to have God’s word available, but we often times take that for granted.

Most People: Are not attentive Do not have the desire to learn Reject the Bible as Authority Have never read any part of the Bible. The only Bible they have a hope of seeing is in the lives of godly people. We are the world’s Bible.

Psalm 119:18 “Open my eyes, that I may see wondrous things from Your Law.” We must want to see these things. This is what we should pray for. This is an attitude that is developed with maturity.

Exodus 24:3 “So Moses came and told the people all the words of the LORD and all the judgments. And all the people answered with one voice and said, ‘all the words which the LORD has said we will do’.” Here is the right attitude displayed. Yet we know the people did not do. Thus they were punished.

Conclusion Bible is God’s word written to us We should learn it for our good. Attitudes of receiving God’s word. Once we receive it, we must obey it, and apply the principles in our daily living. Our salvation depends upon this.
