Song Qingling Song Qingling, a famous Chinese woman revolutionist, who was born on January 27,1893, was married to Sun Yatsen in 1915 against her parents’ will. Ever since then, they were devoted to

the Chinese revolutionary cause(=career) and were respected by all the Chinese people. After the founding of the People’s Republic of China, Song’ s attention was devoted to demanding equal rights for women and children in culture, education and welfare 福利 until her death on May 29 th, 1981 in Beijing.

Madame Curie Marie Curie, was born in Warsaw 华沙 on Nov. 7, 1867. When she was 24 years old. She went to Paris to continue her studies in Physics and Mathematical sciences. There, she got married to Pierre Curie, the professor in the school of Physics. After the death of her husband, she took his place as professor of physics.

It was the first time woman held this position. She did research on radioactivity and discovered polonium 钋 and radium 镭. Because of her contribution, she received the Nobel Prize twice. Madame Curie was respected and admired by scientists throughout the world. She died on July 4, 1934.

Pearl S. Buck

Pearl S. Buck was born in West Virginia, but she spent most of the first forty years of her life in China. She lived in China, studied Chinese and found jobs in Nanjing University with her husband.

In 1920s, Pearl began to publish stories and essays in magazines. Her first novel, East Wind, West Wind was published in 1930. Her second novel, The Good Earth, became the best-selling book which won her the Pulitzer Prize. Later she won the Nobel Prize for literature, the first American woman to do so. By the time of her death in 1973, Pearl had published over 70 books.

Mother Teresa was born on August 27, 1910. When she was twelve years old, she determined to have a vocation to help the poor and India was her destination. At the age of 18, she went to India, where she took her initial vows as a nun. In India, Mother Teresa devoted herself to caring for those nobody was prepared to look after.Mother Teresa’s work has aroused considerable attention throughout the world. She received the Noble Peace Prize in 1979. She died on September 5,1997.
