2. Calculate the Midpoint What is equation to calculate the midpoint when given coordinates of the endpoint of a segment? Average of the endpoints

3. Example Find midpoint of (-8,5) and (3,-6)

4. Could you find an endpoint If you are given the midpoint and one endpoint could you find the other endpoint. Sub in what you know and work backwards

5. Con’t First part of the formula is how you get the x coordinate for the midpoint Second part of the formula is how you get the y coordinate of the midpoint Sub in what you know to each of the formulas and work backwards to solve for the other endpoint

6. Example One endpoint is (2,5) and the midpoint is (-1,3), find the other endpoint.

Endpoint Using Slope 1.Find slope between endpoint and midpoint 2.Test 1.Add rise to the y value of midpoint, is it the same y as the end point 2.If no then add run to x value of midpoint, you now have ordered pair for endpoint 3.If yes then subtract rise from y of midpoint and subtract run from x of midpoint and write as an ordered pair
