2. Wrong Question to ask: How many credits will transfer over? A better question to ask: How many of my credits will be used towards the degree I want to pursue in the new school?

3.  AA and AS:  Made specifically for people who want to transfer to another school, designed to fit into a four-year program  Both are very flexible  Both exempt you from Pathways classes  AAS:  Designed to train you to for an occupation you will do right after graduation  Not good for transferring  Many credits/classes are not transferrable, Pathways classes are different  Make sure it is the right degree for your career!  Ex: Physical Therapy Assistants = AAS BUT Physical Therapists = Math and Science AS degree  Four-year school and beyond

4. Graduating and getting your LAGCC degree first  CUNY schools have to take ALL the classes in your degree.  LaGCC degrees are all made for articulation agreements with other schools/programs.  Exempt from Pathways Common Core classes (since you took them already) Transferring without LaGCC degree  School will get to pick and choose as many or as little as they please.  You will have to retake classes there, which is likely to be more expensive, and also a waste of time.

5. Graduating and getting your LAGCC degree first  Less College Option classes needed once you transfer  Only 6 credits of these classes needed  Higher priority when schools or programs are choosing applicants  Lower GPA required to transfer with degree Transferring without LaGCC degree  More College Option classes needed  Without a degree, need to take as many as 12 credits  Higher GPA requirements needed to transfer

6.  Benefits only for people who graduate!  All LaGCC degrees have some sort of articulation agreement with at least one school or program of a school somewhere.  LaGCC has agreements with all the 4-year CUNY schools, as well as with many SUNY and private schools in the area as well  You are guaranteed admission into a CUNY school if you graduate first.

7.  GPA matters a lot more than you think  The more selective/competitive the school/program, the more GPA matters  Past GPA and Current GPA (Cumulative GPA) both considered when transferring  Grade trends also considered: If you do bad initially but do good after first stumble, they will factor that in (in a positive way)  Getting a degree here is a guarantee to CUNY Senior school even if you messed up at beginning  Take Math ASAP (if you do not as good in it at beginning semesters, it will look like you improved, plus you need it to transfer)  Honors classes great for transcript  Also good practice for Senior-school-level classes

8.  NYS residents have cheaper tuition costs  CUNY and SUNY tuition costs actually almost the same  SUNY is more expensive overall because of room and board  Admissions into new schools:  CUNY has its own system where we can apply for any of its schools in one application  SUNY has a similar application system as well  All other private schools have their own application processes and systems; should research them individually

9.  Found Under Graduation Plan  A checklist you can use to see what you should be doing as you move on.  Created by Transfer Office, so please take advantage of it!  Ex: Start saving syllabi: useful for fighting for credits that didn’t transfer over

11. It is better to stay in LaGCC to get your degree before transferring. You do not have to rush.
