f Fermilab RF Sources Possible rf power sources –Eiamc 4CW150,000E Tetrode used in 53 MHz systems Tubes cost ~ 18,500 each Presently used in about 100 sockets, Booster, MI, & Tev Present Tev RF PA not suited for 162.5 MHz since it was designed for 53 MHz. Would have to develop an in-house design or find a vendor that has used this tube at or near 162.5 MHz. –About all that I would use from the Tev RF PA would be the custom Fermi tube socket, all other components would have to be designed and fabricated, cathode ckt, anode ckt with power tap, screen, grid and Filament bypass capacitors, etc. –Probably 6 months to build and test a prototype to see if tube can make 75 kW rf power. Requires two amplifiers for RFQ (150kW). –Data sheet limits frequency to 108MHz but factory seems to indicate that high frequency operation is possible if tube operating power is reduced. Would work with Tev RF modulator Would need to buy or build an Anode power supply. Buy commercial Solid State driver amplifier. December 14, 2011 John Reid2

f Fermilab Power Sources continued Thales TH781 Tetrode –Good for 200kW CW operation –TH18781B cavity can be modified to operate at 162.5 MHz –Tube cost is ~ 61k –Cavity cost with NRE is ~ 120.6k –Tube and cavity a proven design –Tube would work with the Tev RF modulator –Would need to buy or build an anode power supply. –Buy commercial solid state driver amplifier.
