PLC/RTI Early Release Fridays This year we have structured our days to incorporate Professional Learning Communities and Response to Intervention providing differentiated instruction to meet the needs of every student. Grade levels will work together using a variety of teaching strategies and common assessments. We have time build into each week for instructional interventions and enrichment opportunities for all students.

Fifth Graders need guidance from an adult to help them complete homework accurately and neatly and to learn to study successfully. This does not mean that you are doing the work for them, but that you are their partner, giving them help when necessary, encouraging them, and reinforcing skills they have learned at school. Fifth graders usually do not study well by themselves. “Go to your room and study,” is not recommended. Waiting until the night before a test to start studying is not recommended. I suggest small incremental steps over the week to help them remember more material for a longer period of time. Study Skills for Helping Your Fifth Grader

Information is provided that should help your student to have a more successful year! The web page is updated weekly and includes the weekly spelling and vocabulary words, homework, and important upcoming dates, as well as the book report due dates, and other essential information.

GRADES YOU CAN CHECK GRADES ONLINE! Your son or daughter will be getting letter grades. The following will explain what the letter grades mean in the fifth grade. “A” means SUPERIOR WORK or work of the highest quality that surpasses the Above Average student in the fifth grade (90-100%) “B” means ABOVE AVERAGE WORK or work that is above the Average student in the fifth grade (80- 89%). “C” means AVERAGE WORK or work that a student in the fifth grade should be doing (70-79%). “D” means BELOW AVERAGE WORK or work that is below what a fifth grade student should be doing (60- 69%). “F” means FAILING or work that is not completed and/or the student is not trying (59% or below).

STUDENTS WHO FOLLOW THE RULES Praise from the teacher. Good grades and self-pride for doing well. Individual rewards Class rewards for co-operative group behavior. Rewards will be given upon reaching class goals as well as individual rewards at the end of each week and each month.

Star Behavior It’s Up to You! Students who choose not to follow the rules: First Offense: Warning Think about your behavior. It’s up to you; you control your own actions. Second Offense: Refocus Write a Reflection Note that tell what the class was doing when the infraction happened, how it affect the class and you, and what would be a better choice next time. Third Offense: Lose Extra Recess On Friday Write another Reflection Note. (Refocus) Phone Call Home Fourth Offense: All of the above and a referral to the office.
