Inter-Schools Tourns School v school teams, eg North London Collegiate v LEH v St James etc Traditionally Sept & Oct, eg Greater London Schools Tournament Traditionally schools enter within County lines (some exceptions) County Teams Players nominated by schools and qualified Club coaches Separate Trial dates for County selection Separate Training date for County teams County teams reflect a traditional County (Herts, Surrey, Beds & Bucks combined etc) Representative County teams U19s A & B, U15s A & B play in a 1 day Tournament around Sunday Nov 8th Region Open U19 trials for Regional selection, no link to County representation. Any player can nominate themselves for trials 1 day trials (November), 1 day training (January), 1 day Tournament (March) Current Schools, County & Regional Structure 2015

Issues with Current Set up Unbalanced number of schools within traditional County lines, eg 8, 8, 5, 3, 3, 3, 1, 1 For Counties with only a few schools this makes an early season Inter-school Tournament less enjoyable for girls, or completely unworkable for Counties with only 1-3 schools Small schools within a County sometimes avoid schools Tourns as do not want to come up against the dominant schools Several Counties struggle to staff fielding 4 County squads as almost entirely reliant on volunteer staff to cover the workload Several schools are missed in the current County process A lot of lacrosse in the calendar (particularly in South East) generally, so the ability to change this large process and potentially remove a day of lacrosse is a positive County teams trial and train for 2 days and only play a 1 day Tournament

What’s Ranking and is it for both Super-Counties and Regionals? In this process we are using the term Ranking refers to how we will balance teams for Super-Counties Pre player submissions a set of 1-3 Rank criteria will be defined and will be available to all Teachers and Club Coaches will submit players with a preliminary Rank Independent selectors will then assess the players (at schools Tourns or if they only play club lacrosse they will be considered through a paper process) There are only a handful of players who only play club lacrosse (not school) so we do not expect this to skew selection, but will review process each year SELECTED players will have been ranked during the selection process. This allows the coaches not only to distribute attackers, midfielders and defenders across but to take account of the skill levels of those selected

Issues Check More balanced numbers of schools in each competition All schools able to attend a good size Tournament A & B Tournament levels offered Coaching roles advertised independently Clear pathway for all schools and clubs to send girls Removal of County trials and training dates Tournament days predominantly utilised for trials Unbalanced number of schools within traditional County lines, eg 8, 8, 5, 3, 3, 3, 1, 1 For Counties with only a few schools this makes an early season Inter-School Tournament less enjoyable for girls, or completely unworkable for Counties with only 1-3 schools Small schools within a County sometimes avoid schools Tourns as do not want to come up against the dominant schools Several Counties struggle to staff fielding 4 County squads as almost entirely reliant on volunteer staff to cover the workload Several schools are missed in the current County process A lot of lacrosse in the calendar (particularly in South East) generally, so the ability to change this large process and potentially remove a day of lacrosse is a positive County teams trial and train for 2 days and only play a 1 day Tournament

FAQs 1. I have put forward players for Super-Counties, can I coach a team? Yes but you will be sent to select at a different event to the one your girls are playing at. Events will span different dates so you can coach your school team and select on another date. 2. Our County easily produces County teams and we want more information on the reason for the change? We understand that for 2 of our South East Counties (Surrey and Herts) the current system does work but sadly for all the other counties the system is either starting to fail or has never worked. With the growth of the game and lone schools starting lacrosse in other counties we need to move to a system which takes pressure off our over stretched teachers and allows for growth. 3. In the existing set up 18 County teams were selected and in the new set up it’s only 12, why? This is a trial whilst we get the new format up and running. It will be reviewed annually and changed as necessary. 4. My daughter doesn’t play lacrosse at a lax school, can she take part? Yes, but she needs to be nominated by a qualified lacrosse coach. See slide 9. 5. My school has been grouped with schools who want to play their schools Tournament on a Saturday but we cannot attend. Can we go to another Tournament which is on a Sunday? Yes if you wish to switch groupings that is fine however we will need to see how this goes and review the set up if we end up with too many schools in 1 group. 6. Why have Bucks been put in a tourn group which looks geographically wrong? This was agreed in consultation with schools at the decision meeting in Sept 2015 and was due to an issue over playing on Saturday v Sunday. However individual schools can switch to other tournaments/groups if they prefer. 7. I’m a teacher/coach and want to put players forward, do I need to gather full information from the girls (medical, playing position etc) in order to put them forward? No teachers/coaches will only need to provide full name, year group and a preliminary Ranking. Girls will sign themselves up and provide the rest of the information we need. 8. Are these all new dates in the calendar? No all the dates have been previously utilised as County or Regional dates with the exception of some schools Tourns. We have in addition removed some dates such as County training dates. 9. How will players from Clubs be selected on paper v girls from lacrosse schools? Players from clubs who do not attend a lacrosse school can be submitted by a qualified coach from their club. There will be several weeks between submission and selection which will allow time for County coaches to acquire any information they need about any unknown players through discussion with other coaches and teams. We will trial this method for 1-2yrs and review at the end of each season.
