In traditional medicine, medicinal herbs and plant products are used in treating a wide spectrum of infections and other diseases. The aim of this study was to assess the antifungal activity of three extracts from Moroccan Medicinal Plants (Syzygium aromaticum, Eucalyptus rossi, Rosaminus officinalis, Thymus vulgaris and Calendula arvensis) against 6 species of Candida spp. Flowers Calendula Arvensis Candida Glabatra 1 Zone of Inhibition Methanolic (Soxhlet) Well Diffusion Method Candida Glabatra 2 MATERIAL AND METHODS Aerial part Syzygium Aromaticum Candida Famata 1 Hexanolic (Soxhlet) MIC Used parts Leaves Plants Eucalyptus Rossi Candida Famata 2 Aquoeus (Maceration) Leaves and Flowers Candida Tropicalis 1 Rosmarinus Officinalis MBC Candida Tropicalis 2 Leaves and Flowers Thymus Vulgaris Extracts Methods Parameters Strains GF Antifungal activity of extracts in term of inhibition zone (IZ) in mm ECA ESA EER ERO ETV ME HE AE CT1 14 23 25 24 20 16 28 10 9 18 17 19 CT2 22 13 15 CF1 12 29 11 8 CF2 30 CG1 CG2 26 21 The total Of inhibition 34 142 136 114 123 87 160 80 71 117 86 76 MDI% 23.7 22.7 20.5 14.5 26.7 13.3 11.8 19.5 14.3 12.7 Table1: Antifungal activity of different extracts of plants medicinal GFS: Group fungal strain; CT1: Candida Tropicalis, CT2: Candida Tropicalis, CF1: Candida Famata, CF2: Candida Famata, CG1: Candida Glabrata, CG2: Candida Glabrata, ECA:Extract of Calendula arvensis, ESA: Extract of Syzygium Aromaticum, EER: Extract of Eucalyptus Rossi, ERO: Extract of Rosmarinus Officinalis, ETV: Extract of Thymus Vulgaris. RESULTS The results showed that the maximum antimycotic activity was demonstrated by aqueous extracts of Eucalyptus Rossi, MIC values of methanolic extracts were between µg/ml, the obtained results show an antifungal potency of these extracts and were bactericidal for all fungal tested. While the extracts of Calendula arvensis exhibited no activity on these species except methanolic extract showed activity on Candida tropicalis and Candida famata1. CONCLUSION Our results confirm that these plants extract which can be used to cure mycotic infections can have also pharmaceutical and preservatives properties.
