Reported (Indirect) Speech (Косвенная речь)

Косвенная речь имеет форму придаточного предложения в составе сложноподчиненного. При этом согласно смыслу меняются местоимения и глаголы: 1)My friend says: “I have bought a new book.” My friend says he has bought a new book. 2) Helen says: “I help my mum with dinner.” Helen says she helps her mum with dinner.

Statements (Утверждения) say(s) (that) V. 1)John says :”I am a student.” John says he is a student. 2)Sue says : ”It was my first trip to Spain.” Sue says it was her first trip to Spain. 3)Parents say: “You should study seriously.” Parents say that I should study seriously.

General Questions ask(s) if (whether) V. 1)Tom asks: “Do you have a pet, Olga?” Tom asks if Olga has a pet. 2) Dad asks: “Did you enjoy the holidays?” Dad asks if I enjoyed the holidays. 3)The teacher asks: “Will you be a vet?” The teacher asks if I will be a vet.

Special Questions ask(s) ? V. 1)Bob asks: “Where does Nick work?” Bob asks where Nick works. 2)The teacher asks: “Why are you late?” The teacher asks why I am late. 3)Mum asks me: “When have you come?” Mum asks me when I have come.

Orders, Commands, Requests (Приказы, команды, просьбы) say(s) tell(s) ask(s) to V (not to). 1)The man asks: “Tom, help me.” The man asks Tom to help him. 2) Mum tells me: “Don’t cross the street.” Mum tells me not to cross the street.
