3 B E PROACTIVE You choose to be Proactive or Reactive, you are in complete control of how you act to a situation What type of language are you using? I’ll try vs. I’ll do it Reactive people are “victims” Remember you can only control how you react. You cant control the situation or act that happens to you, just what you do. See the solution, not the problem. Turn your setback into triumph Don’t be afraid to “push pause”

15 B EFORE I CAN WALK IN ANOTHERS SHOES, I MUST REMOVE MY OWN Are you a talker? Spend the day just listening. Try expressing your feelings in a responsible way, rather than burying them. How do you listen? Do you make eye contact? Do your watch body language? 5 poor listening styles: Spacing out Pretend listening Selective listening Word listening Self-centered listening (judging, probing, advising?)

17 W HAT IS SYNERGY ? When 2 or more people work together to create a better solution than either could alone. What is your profile? Shunner- afraid of differences Tolerator- everyone has right to be different, but don’t embrace diversity Celebrator- value differences, see them as an advantage Roadblocks to celebrating differences: Ignorance, cliques, prejudice **remember synergy is more than just compromise or cooperation, its creative cooperation

18 F ORMULA FOR S YNERGY Define the problem Their way (understand their pov) My way (have others understand my pov) Brainstorm High way (find the best solution) Attacking problems or issues with a game plan helps to take the emotion out of things and helps you reach an acceptable conclusion.

20 T AKE CARE OF YOURSELF Body: eat breakfast, exercise, try to get to bed a little earlier Mind: challenge yourself by expanding your reading base, try visiting a new museum or try a different kind of cuisine Heart: try a one on one “date” with a family member, try to build a humor collection and “smile” Soul: watch a sunrise or sunset, keep a journal, meditate/reflect/pray- whatever works for you
