3 Trainer / Assessor Competency requirements in 2016

4 Prior to 1 January 2016, the Standards have permitted trainers and assessors to hold ‘demonstrated equivalence’ to the qualifications/skill set listed above. However, from 1 January 2016 every RTO trainer/assessor must hold one of the qualifications/skill set listed above. For example, an RTO trainer/assessor who holds TAA40104 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment—but not any of the qualifications/skill set listed above—will no longer meet the requirements of the Standards from 1 January 2016. 5 RTOs delivering training products from Training and Education Training Packages (Clause 1.22 and 1.25 of the Standards) From 1 January 2016, all trainers and assessors delivering any qualification or skill set from the Training and Education Training Packages must hold the qualification or skill set at least to the level being delivered or assessed. 10 Trainer / Assessor Competency requirements in 2016 What is equivalent competency? When the competency held by the trainer is not directly relevant or at the same level, then you need to treat this like an RPL situation. You need to have enough evidence to convince the auditor in 10 minutes during the audit that your trainer in competent in the units they are delivering!

13 Diploma delivered over 40 weeks with: 7 hrs/week classroom 6 hrs/week online 5 hrs/week assignments Total = 720 hrs Volume of learning – figuring it out!

14 Need to utilise: Entry requirements Pre-existing skills and knowledge Mode of delivery Supervised time, about 20-30% Non-supervised time 70-80% Can only be justified by planned activity Ask yourself, is there enough time allocated and planned activities for learners to develop their skills and knowledge? 17 SHBBFAS001 - Provide lash and brow services Skills must be demonstrated in a beauty industry environment; this can be: a beauty industry workplace or a simulated beauty workplace set up for the purpose of skills assessment, that provides services to paying members of the public. 33 Fact sheet—Conducting validation If you are validating a qualification, validate the assessment practices and judgements from a sample of the units of competency within that qualification. At least two units of competency should be sampled when validating a qualification. You may expand the number of units to validate at any time during the validation process, particularly when validation outcomes indicate that assessment judgments are not valid.
