Interactive Television A.K.A: Two-Way-TV Allows viewers to take part. A new way to view Television. A big part of Digital TV 2

Uses Taking part in quiz shows. Sky + / Sky HD+ Services Multi-screen - news, sport, the weather and traffic news, Home banking and shopping, Voting in opinion polls, Video-conferencing, Electronic Learning Interactive betting, Changing camera angles in football matches / selecting courts in tennis. E-Mail through your TV. Direct shopping - ordering a pizza after seeing a TV ad. BBC iPlayer via your TV. IPTV 3

Advantages Active rather than passive A number of different activities can be carried out on one system i.e Do not need additional equipment (like a PC), everything can be done through your TV. Two-way. Not just viewing. Entertaining. Customise what you watch and when you watch. More choice! Often choice of language 4

Disadvantages Cost of interactive services. Speed? Over a phone line can be slow. Social issues? Spending more time in front of the TV? Complicated to use? Speed to type / move around with remote control. Security concerns Difficult for some to access (ICT literacy) 5
