11. Open Text Based Assessment (OTBA) O 10 marks for open-text-based assessment (OTBA) in Summative 2 O The OTBA section will comprise of text material accompanied by 2-3 questions based on that text. O The questions based on text will be of higher order thinking skills requiring students to apply learning to the situations given in the article/ report/ case study and draw inferences/conclusions there from. O The questions based on the text will be open ended, inferential and based on personal response justifying a point of view.

12. Assessment of Speaking and Listening (ASL) skills O CBSE essentially desires its students to acquire proficiency in communicative skills of English language by the time they leave the portals of the school. In order to achieve this, the provision of assessment of speaking and listening skills has been made compulsory in Summative as well as Formative assessments in Secondary classes and in internal assessment and term end examination in Class XI. O Taking cognizance of the comfort level of students, it has been decided to assess students formally in O speaking and listening skills in classes IX and XI from the year 2012 onwards.
