The MESA Project and e-Maritime MESA: TTG4 3 rd e-Maritime Workshop, Valencia, 27 January 2016 Takis Katsoulakos - INLECOM 1 Tony Morrall - BMT

The MESA Project Contents: WATERBORNE TP’s Current Key RDI Priorities for Ports MESA’s Main Objectives MESA’s Structure and Integration MESA’s e-Maritime Thematic Technology Group Available e-Maritime Technologies Expected Technologies for e-maritime 2

Key RDI Priorities for Ports: Manage & Facilitate Growth and Changing Trade Patterns: Accelerated Development of New Port & Infrastructure Facilities Interoperability between Modes More Effective Ports and Infrastructure Intelligent Transportation Technologies & Integrated ICT solutions WATERBORNE TP’s Current Key RDI Priorities for Ports www.waterborne-tp.org

MESA’s Main Objectives Establish a network of Maritime actors in order to improve cooperation between the stakeholders and to strengthen the effectiveness of the research and innovation capabilities. Cluster relevant research projects (EU and National) and assess the State-of-the-Art of the technology and its development. Propose themes for the updating the WATERBORNE TP Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda and Implementation Plan; Dissemination of the results achieved; identify show cases and successful demonstration activities MESA Supports WATERBORNE-TP

MESA’s Structure and Integration

*ICT is considered more enabler than trend MESA’s Foresight Support Group Strategy Trend Interdependencies

Waterborne Trade Growth Growth of waterborne trade is driven by economic growth of developing countries and global growth in demand for food, water and technological products. Impacts on all waterborne sectors : Significant increase of throughput in sea ports Drivers for infrastructure investments are port congestion, insufficient intermodal connection and increasing vessel size With an increased trend to use alternative fuels (LNG, hydrogen, methanol, ethanol, biodiesel, biogas), trade of these fuels around the world will increase

Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) The fast development in information and communication technologies will increase digitalisation in all waterborne sectors Impacts on all waterborne sectors: Digitalisation will have significant influence on how assets are designed and operated Higher degree of systems automation, availability of smart sensors and global networks for data transfer between ship and shore will push remote controlled, semi or fully autonomous operation of assets. Interconnectivity required to secure systems and operations against cyber attacks

MESA’s e-Maritime Thematic Technology Group (TTG4) Partners in MESA’s e-Maritime Group: Ship OperationsDANAOS e-NavigationMARINTEK Logistic Chain Inlecom Systems Port OperationsValencia Port Regulations ManagementBMT Group Ltd

MESA’s Main Areas for e-Maritime Ships Operation (operators and suppliers) including vessels and fleet management, e-Navigation, vessel monitoring, e- Maintenance, e-Recruitment etc. Logistic Chain Operations, including transport, logistic planning, monitoring, etc. Port Operations including customs, port clearance, terminal and berth status, SSN, etc. Regulations Management including National Single Window, Maritime Single Window for ship formalities Directive, Surveillance monitoring for ship and traffic, Port State Control etc.

MESA’s e-Maritime main tasks Assess the State-of-the-Art of the technology and its development Propose themes for the updating WATERBORNE TP Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda, and the Implementation Plan Dissemination of the results achieved in e-Maritime; Identify show cases and successful demonstration activities

e-Maritime related projects analysed for assessing the State-of-the-Art: 85 projects

Main topics of Port Operation’s projects Port OperationsProject Improving information distribution between stakeholders Adriatic, MIELE Supporting commercial port-maritime services PORTMOS, MEDITA, EFFORTS Improving the integration of ports with the hinterland FUTUREMED, STIMULO Fostering maritime-railway integration: CEDEX INTERMODALITY Improving ship operations at ports EFFORTS. Developing technologies to support intermodal freight transport systems TIMI Fostering the creation of knowledge networks PORT INTEGRATION State-of-the-Art Port e-Maritime solutions eMAR Simplifying and harmonising the maritime transport formalities MEDNET, SESTANTE

Available e-Maritime Technologies A review has been made of Available Technologies in e-Maritime in the areas of: Ship Operations; e-Navigation; Port Operations and the Logistics Chain, concentrating on technologies in areas relevant to current and future WATERBORNE TP priorities The following slide summarises the Available Technologies for Port Operations: 14

Available Technologies for Port Operations European research projects related to ports have focussed on three main areas: port management and operations, infrastructures, and multi-modal traffic in port terminals. The common objective was to help achieve higher levels of efficiency in ports This research has provided important information for logistics and multimodal transport operations and processes, or how they can be improved, through the application of new support technologies, such ICT and simple data exchanges ICT is the main technology and recent research has focused on integrating web-based systems for multimodal transport logistics and port networking, within the e-maritime framework 15

Key Research Priorities based on the gaps Port Operations and Ship-Shore Interfaces: Development of Intelligent holistic solutions for the efficient management of ships in ports, integrated with Urban Mobility Plans and solutions Optimisation of interconnectivity between transport modes Development of existing interoperable e-Maritime systems, (PCS, SW, CCS, TOS, TMS, etc.) Developments to improve interoperability and integration between transport modes, including advanced logistic chain management systems and operational tools 16

Expected Technologies for e-maritime: In the maritime transport sector, vast amounts of data are available that could support new business opportunities to improve ship and port operation and logistics The intelligent use of data and advanced ICT technologies will further develop port community systems for optimising daily operations The use of real-time monitoring, and improved management and the optimisation of traffic in port areas, will also help facilitate the intermodal logistics chain 17

Expected Technologies for future digital maritime applications: Wireless communication technology Information gathering, validation, fusion and situational awareness Maritime Cloud Big Data Analytics (for business, navigation, security and safety decision making etc.) Sensors Internet of Things Web 3.0 18

Five Key ICT Innovations for ports and logistics* Robotics and automation Autonomous vehicles The Internet of Things and Big Data Analytics Simulation and Virtual Reality Cybersecurity 19 * DP World Report: A turning point: The potential role of ICT innovation in Ports and Logistics, November 2015.
