Brief summary of peruvian policies for the development of athletes and competitiveness (4) Ministry of Education Urgency for restructuring National Sport Systems and policies for athlete development  The interest on the practice of sport by young students emerges from this scenario. 2014 – National Plan for the strengthening of Physical and Sport Education 2015 –Direction of Physical and Sport Education is created 2016 –A recent law states as mandatory the teaching of 3 hours of physical education in every public school New legal framework allowing private parties for supporting athletes and sport activity in Exchange for tax deduction benefits is approved (guidelines for implementation pending) Physical and Sport Educational Reform

8 Brief summary of peruvian policies for the development of athletes and competitiveness (7) Complimentary Current Activities by the Ministry of Education: National-Wide School level Competitions (“National School Sport Games”) A state-supported school championships, including 14 disciplines and the only of its kind. Providesyoung athletes the means to develop sport competition skills Enpowerment of Physical education at curricular level and promotion of physical activities during learning periods General and Specialized Sport Equipment for schools Providing means for implementing training programs according to the available infrastructure and local needs. A new curriculum focusing on development of competences and centered on exploration, control and possibilities of body movement and functions rather than calorie burning. Physical Education class has been granted an additional hour at all schools. 1 2 3

10 What has been achieved in three years of reform: : Brief summary of peruvian policies for the development of athletes and competitiveness (9) 1 2 3 A Physical Education School Program focused in both, its physical abilities, and the social and personal development of the student Providing potential young athletes the means to discover their talent on a sport –that otherwise might have gone unnoticed- and to develop it without requiring to invest additional material resources Thought the organization of the “National School Sport Games” the school, its headmaster and teachers, so than local and regional authorities become the main alleys of young athletes by getting involved Exploring their physical abilities becomes an act of enjoyment It’s justified the relevance of a physical education
