Need for the Study Good News proclaimers: fullness of Life: “Surviving Modern-Day Slavery and Celebrating Life” Rifts, Conflicts Pastors/theologians, parishioners, activists, teachers and community organizers – need to be counselors/conflict managers Echos Commission: we are representatives of many young co-journers, leadership modeled after Jesus Releasing the "sound“ (of liberation)* to the oikomene Text – Context : daily bread, everyday life – religion as everyday experience 5

CONFLICT -1 Conflict vs Dilemma: conflict – a problem at the beginning; dilemma – a problem at the climax War is a conflict, but conflict is not necessarily a war (at the most a battle!) Conflict is the dilemma a character is facing; Complication is what the character encounters when trying to figure out how to solve the conflict Conflict = discord of action, feeling or effect* 6

CONFLICT - 5 CONFLICT AND CHURCH (conflict-wounded churches) – bleeding body of Christ? Wherever two or more are gathered together, there will be conflict! 20% to 25% of all churches face active conflict today? It's a question of when, not if... 84% of pastors have experienced destructive church conflict 35% of church conflicts are identified as being between the congregation and the pastor from the outset Result: drop outs: parishioners as well as leaders How dare we still call ourselves the church. Can this possibly be even a faint resemblance of what Christ intends for us? 10

TEAM-BUILDING Team: saints/sheep & shepherds/pastors & cong. TEAM WORK (together to gather): shared authority and service: IAS STEPS for leader : 1. Listen 2. Take (suggestions: flexible) 3. Include 4.Encourage 5. Know 6. Enjoy 7. Boost morale 8. Be smart Developing a ministry team: 1. Biblical base 2. Relationships 3. Mutual submission 4. Mutual trust 5. Team Love 6. TEAM KILLERS/Team Propellers WHAT destroys a team (healthy Church) – 1.(Pastoral) Pride 2. Lack of Acceptance 3. Suspicion 4. Inflexibility 5. Docility (passivity): ‘yes’man Rebuild the team (bridges): share and care; pull towards (through faith & grace); think globally, act locally; make an impact; cherish uniqueness, find oneness: Peter: hot reactor; John: rural rustic: Matthew: loathed taxcollector; Thomas the doubter – all got the right training/coaching (inspire) Make person a personnel; group into a fellowship; expect conflicts Walk the Talk; a leader’s walk talks! Give each one a task: a piece of God’s mission Complete ministry/complementary ministry (with laity) 15

CONCLUSION Teaching and preaching: learning reality – everyday, various ways Spiritual secularism Peace – interfaith dialogue: talent, tolerant Trust based team – resolution (conflict) management (resources) Alternatives to violence Rebuilding communities – healing touch Reengineering theories & practices – don’t go with status quo Not for pride, domination and division but for unity, peace and reconciliation Operational Knowledge – wisdom at large (last?) 16
