2. What is a Rain Forest? A rain forest is a place that is hot and damp. Half of the plants and animals live in rain forests. It is a forest that gets rain almost every day.

3. Location of Rain Forests Rain forests are found in South America, North America, Australia, Asia and Africa. They are all found along the equator.

4. Emergent Layer The Emergent Layer is the highest layer in the rain forest. Animals such as Toucans, Macaws, Harpy Eagles, and other types of birds live in the Emergent Layer. The trees can be over 200 feet tall.

5. Canopy Layer The Canopy layer is the noisiest layer in the rain forest. Most of the animals live in the Canopy Layer. Animals such as parrots, toucans, sloths, macaws and monkeys live in the Canopy layer.

6. Understory The Understory only receives a little sun light. The Understory has jaguars, frogs, iguanas, snakes and geckos.

7. Forest Floor The Forest Floor is the darkest layer that recieves very little sunlight. It is a layer that has many animals like jaguars, frogs, andaconda, ants and tapir.

8. Snakes Snakes are most feared in the rain forest. Some snakes like boas, don’t kill with a venomous bite, they kill by constricting. Lots of poisonous snakes live in rain forest like vipers.

9. Jaguars Jaguars are really the biggest predator in the rain forest and the scariest. They wait for their prey then jump. Snap! He drags them up in the trees so army ants won’t eat their food.

11. Deforestation People are cutting down trees in the rain forest for money. They are burning down some areas for roads. They are also cutting down trees to make room for farming.

12. People of the Rain Forest Some people in the Rain Forest are very short. The people take what they need, but they plant it again. They take spices such as pepper and vanilla.
