What is Wi-Fi? Wi-Fi (wireless fidelity) is a wireless networking technology that allows devices to communicate without wires. It uses radio waves just like cell phones or televisions.
3
How it works In the Wi-Fi network, computers connect to a wireless router. The router is connected to the internet by a modem. Any user within a good range of the access point can then connect to the internet. It uses radio for communication, operating at a frequency of 2.4GHz.
4
Job in a network It allows you to connect devices to the internet without using wires/cables. A Wi-Fi network can either be open to anyone or closed/secured by a password. It refers to any system that uses the 802.11 standard.

Advantages & Disadvantages Advantages Wireless – Move your laptop around – No cable-clutter – Save cost for cables & network sockets – Network cables & sockets deteriorate Further placed – longer than wire’s length Popular hotspots: lobbies, airports, cafes, etc Disadvantages More distance, speed falls – signal strength Interference from microwaves or cordless phones, same frequency Password & security, easy to break into Climatic conditions
