4 Do you have any students, who  misunderstand your instructions?  have unreadable handwriting?  misspell too much?  misbehave?  answer back to teachers?  daydream during the lessons?  hate studying but come to school because they have no choice? If you have at least 3 positive questions, you have some students with special education needs (SEN).

5 restlessness; fidgeting; lack of focus; emotional control; short concentration span co-ordination / articulation; sequencing; spatial awareness; temporal awareness; environmental sensitivity social interaction (including pragmatics); intolerance of changes in routine; understanding metaphorical language numerical /temporal concepts; sequencing; tenses; time expressions phonological processing; text processing; explaining ideas Memory Speed of processing Organisation Self esteem Good and bad days Co-occurrence of SEN

8 Remediation Give dyslexic students more time to complete their class work and tests. Reduce the level of distraction in the classroom. Distractible kids should sit away from windows and close to you. Give pre-teaching activities. Provide plenty of pre-listening, pre- writing and pre-reading tasks. Practice pair-work, group-work and class discussions to make ADHD kids interested and motivated in studies. Practice multi-sensory teaching. Teach the language using visual, auditory, mnemonic, tactile and kinesthetic strategies to enhance memory which is especially useful for kids with dyspraxia.

9 If they still don’t want to study…  Ask them general questions about the weather, news, etc.  Teach proverbs about studies: No pain – no gain * No pain – no gain * London wasn’t built in a day * London wasn’t built in a day * Better late than never * Better late than never * Practice makes perfect * Practice makes perfect  Tell jokes in English but be aware that ASD student might misunderstand them. So you should explain their meaning.  Offer them table games (snakes and ladders, domino, bingo)  Show them a film  Let them download some apps and use their mobile devices.

12 Coloring and Highlighting This strategy is highly recommended  to catch their attention  to let them focus on something important  to avoid misunderstanding  to take the stress and frustration away

16 Audio-Visual Strategies  Since students affected by dyslexia have difficulties with reading and writing, they can learn new information by seeing it.  Presenting pictures as a part of the instructions makes them focused  It avoids misunderstanding and motivates them.

18 Story telling  enlarges students’ vocabulary  help them learn grammar and sentence structure  using books with pictures or e-books improve their reading skills  seeing English subtitles and repeating the words improves their spelling and pronunciation
