What is changing sentences ? Changing sentences means to change a sentence into another form but their meaning must not be changed. Affir: Rahim is a good boy. Negative :Rahim is not a good boy.

Affirmative to negative 1. Only or alone is changed with none but. Afffir : Only Allah can help us. Neg : None but Allah can help us. Exa mple

2. Must changes into can’t but or can’t help. Affir : We must go there. Neg : We can’t but go there. Or- We can’t help going there. Exa mple

3. If there is always, always changes into never and verb becomes negative. Affir : I shall always remember you. Neg : I shall never forget you. Exa mple

4. both—and changes into not only—but also. Exa mple Affir : Mina is both a good student and good painter. Neg : Mina is not only a good student but also a good painter.

5. Every, all, everybody are replaced with ‘There is no’. Exa mple Affir : Every mother loves her child. Neg : There is no mother but loved her child.

6. Sentences starts with ‘all’ or ‘every’ and the verb is ‘to be’ or ‘to have’, verb remain unchanged, all, every changes into ‘No’ and adjective changed into it’s antonym. Exa mple Affir :All men are mortal. Neg :No man is immortal.

7. As soon as changes into No sooner had than. Affir : As soon as the police came, the thief ran away. Neg : No sooner had the police come than the thief ran away. Exa mple

8. Too—to replaces with so-- -that and can’t/ couldn’t is used before verb. Affir : The man is too weak to walk. Neg : The man is so weak that he can’t walk. Exa mple

9. ‘Many’ changes into ‘not a few’. ‘Little’ or ‘Much’ changes into ‘not much’ and ‘not little’ Affir : I have many books. Affir : I have little water. Neg : I don’t have a few books. Neg : I don’t have much water. Exa mple

10. If there is as—as, the first ‘as’ replaced with not less and the last ‘as’ replaced with than. Affir: Moni is as clever as Dipa. Neg : Moni is not less clever than Dipa. Exa mple

11. Antomym of ‘Verb’ or ‘Adjective’ of the sentence needs to be used. Neg : The boy is not weak. Affir : The boy is strong. Exa mple

Assertive to Interrogative 1.Find the auxiliary verb in the sentence and start the interrogative sentence with it. 2.If there is no auxiliary verb, starts the sentence with do/does/did. 3. If the assertive sentence is affirmative, interrogative should be negative. 4. If the assertive sentence starts with everybody, all, nobody, starts the interrogative with ‘Who”. 1.They are playing football. Int : Aren’t they playing football ? 2.She has not done the work. Int : Has she done the work ? 3.Rima helps her mother. Int : Doesn’t Rima help her mother ? 4.Everybody likes flower. Int : Who doesn’t like flowers ? Exa mple

Assertive to Exclamatory If in assertive sentence there is article ‘a” or ‘an” Assertive starts with “What”. If there is no article “Assertive starts with “How” Sructure: What/how+adjective+object+verb ! Asser: Rahim is a very strong boy. Excl: What a strong boy Rahim is! Asser: Rahim is very strong. Excl: How strong Rahim is!
