Einstein's E=mc 2 A Tale of Horror and of Hope

Introduction 2 3 1 4 5 6

Burning of fossil fuels produces 21.3 billion tonnes of CO 2 per year... natural processes can absorb only half that amount!

Graph 1.0 - Global Carbon Emissions

People are just congealed energy forms, aimlessly wandering over the surface of a planet. Energy and mass are equivalent and transmutable Key to quantifying Einstein's equation is appreciating the value of c 2 The speed of light (c) is 300,000,000 m/s c 2 = 9 x 10 16 Consequently, a small amount of matter (m) produces a massive amount of energy (E)

Hiroshima – Monday 6 August, 1945.

Energy Yields (E=mc 2 ) Table 1.0

Nuclear Fission 0.09% Conversio n

Nuclear Fusion 0.7% Conversio n

Nature's Nuclear Fusion Reactor

The Future: A Fusion Reactor!!

Conclusion Global Carbon Emissions are unsustainable. Science has demonstrated how it is possible to extract vast amounts of energy from small amounts of matter. Nuclear Fission converts around 0.09% of matter into energy, but generates radioactive waste. Nuclear Fusion cleanly converts around 0.7% of matter into energy, but the process requires immensely high temperatures. Scientists are developing our first nuclear fusion reactor.

"Raise YOUR eyes high up and see. Who has created these things? It is the One who is bringing forth the army of them even by number, all of whom he calls even by name. Due to the abundance of dynamic energy, he also being vigorous in power, not one [of them] is missing." - Isaiah 40:26
