Team Tres By: Erin Tibbetts and Ryan Schnepper Project name: Music to Your Ears

Team Colt Client Sarah can only hear out of one ear. Speakers are available in the classroom. She is possibly dyslexic. Easily frustrated by homework, especially with spelling words. Statement of need: Sarah needs to learn her spelling words independently.

Requirements and Constraints Safe product Finished in given time Less than $150 Looks appealing Uncomplicated She needs to be able to hear it easily. Efficient power source Transportable Durability Usable for easy and complex spelling words. Product should be fun and stress free for our client.

Market Existing technology than could be used: word processors, reading systems, phonetic spelling, and speech recognition. All of the above technologies have been modified to help people with dyslexia. Our client also stated that the speakers available at school were very expensive.

Design will reduce stress associated with homework. More independence. Less reliance on her mother. Encourages Sarah to learn spelling words. Lots of buttons means a lot of inputs. Time consuming. ProsCons

Keyboard Spelling Existing keyboard modified with buttons that represent spelling words. Spelling words recorded ahead of time. Hear word->spell it out on keyboard. Leds on the keyboard to show if was right or wrong. Each word is a key on the keyboard When spelling word key is pressed, board knows order the keys for word.

Less Building Time Our client will learn by hearing and typing. Simplistic and user friendly. Very plain Client’s mother would need to be involved. Connecting the recorder and the keyboard to react with button pushing would be difficult. ProsCons

Final Project Idea We originally decided that we would combine the two ideas for our final project. We hoped to use a keyboard with only letters or numbers. This would solve the issue of having too many inputs.
