2. A tsunami is a series of ocean waves with wavelengths of hundreds of kilometres, caused by large scale disturbances of the ocean, such as: ▫earthquakes ▫landslide ▫volcanic eruption ▫explosions ▫meteorites

3. Tsunamis are generated when a large amount of water is displaced very quickly. However, the most common cause is an undersea earthquake. Tsunamis can also be created when the sea floor suddenly moves at a fault in the earth’s crust.

4.  Earthquakes lasting up to 20 seconds at coastal areas suggest a huge possibility that a tsunami is approaching.  Sometimes, birds may be seen flying towards the beach from the open sea. This may not always happen, but it can indicate danger out at sea.

5. One tsunami can destroy an entire coastal village and remove all the sand from a beach and sand that took hundreds of years to accumulate.

6. 1958, Alaska: In a narrow Alaskan bay about 250 miles west of Juneau the highest tsunami ever recorded. The wavelength was the height of1,700 feet- almost twice as tall as the Eiffel Tower.
