04/05/2016Mental Health in Partnership Conference3 Governance and oversight: By no later than Summer 2016, NHS England, the Department of Health and the Cabinet Office should confirm what governance arrangements will be put in place to support the delivery of this strategy. This should include arrangements for reporting publicly on how progress is being made against recommendations for the rest of government and wider system partners, the appointment of a new equalities champion for mental health to drive change and creating an independent external advisory board to provide independent scrutiny and challenge to the programme. Priority 1: A 7 day NHS – right care, right time, right quality Priority 2: An integrated approach to mental and physical health care Priority 3: Promoting good mental health and preventing poor mental health Priority 4: ‘Hard-wiring’ mental health across the NHS

Mental Health in Partnership Conference Service User Leadership “Nothing is a waste of time if you use the experience wisely” Auguste Rodin Let’s talk about mental health Service user leadership is about being able to share what works using the experience from “self” SPFT is currently treating 5,000 people with psychosis and 5,000 children and young people started treatment in Sussex alone - Imagine the wealth of solutions that can be found amongst this number – solutions that can work within the internal health economy and externally Involvement in co-production is just a mechanism to release lived experience it is not an end in itself – should improve wellbeing The support must also come from external independent direct service user voices for example the initiative of community based service users who are carrying out focus group on wards in Hellingly

I believe today we are planting an acorn – The Recovery College Tree which will have many different branches for our students to choose from. It is our role to water and nurture it so it grows to develop strong roots and flourishing vibrant leaves.

The authority of service user leadership equates directly to the diversity of voices within their collective. We must therefore build our collective over the next five years… and beyond.
