The Sixth Form College Solihull 14 – 19 Provision Education Scrutiny Committee Key characteristics of local framework and how SFCS contributes to this.

Quality Pass Rates, Success Rates, Value Added, University Progression all strong. Ofsted 2009 Inspection “Relentless focus on excellent outcomes and achievement”. Framework for Excellence: Progression of students “Outstanding”. Rich and diverse extended curriculum. Success in “traditional” subjects. Recent Capital Investment.

Choice Range of institutions in the Borough offer families every possible post-16 option. Scale of SFCS enables us to provide incredible subject range and option choice. Partnership working extends this choice.

Economic Impact Value for money. SFC provision is the most efficient option available, by between 10% and 20%. Local Economy. SFCS is the single biggest source of undergraduates in the West Midlands.

Meeting Local Needs Admissions policies ensure families from within the Borough have first call on places. Over 1,000 students at the College are supported with Education Maintenance Awards. Both Colleges are diverse, integrated and cohesive factors in local communities.

Challenges and Opportunities The number of post-16 places in the Borough significantly exceeds the number of young people who live here. This capacity is used to meet the choices of over 2,000 families who decide that options available here are better than their local provision. Funding over the next 5 years will be a major challenge. Governors at SFCS will decide this winter on designation to the new Sixth Form College sector which will be part of the Local Authority family.
