Welcome to Trinity UMC

The Church’s One Foundation 545 1. The church’s one foundation is Jesus Christ her Lord; she is his new creation by water and the Word. The Church’s One Foundation (Verse 1) WORDS: Samuel J. Stone, 1866

From heaven he came and sought her to be his holy bride; with his own blood he bought her, and for her life he died.

2. Elect from every nation, yet one o’er all the earth; her charter of salvation, one Lord, one faith, one birth; The Church’s One Foundation (Verse 2)

one holy name she blesses, partakes one holy food, and to one hope she presses, with every grace endued.

3. Though with a scornful wonder we see her sore oppressed, by schisms rent asunder, by heresies distressed, The Church’s One Foundation (Verse 3)

yet saints their watch are keeping; their cry goes up, “How long?” And soon the night of weeping shall be the morn of song.

4. Mid toil and tribulation, and tumult of her war, she waits the consummation of peace forevermore; The Church’s One Foundation (Verse 4)

till, with the vision glorious, her longing eyes are blest, and the great church victorious shall be the church at rest.

5. Yet she on earth hath union with God the Three in One, and mystic sweet communion with those whose rest is won. The Church’s One Foundation (Verse 5)

O happy ones and holy! Lord, give us grace that we like them, the meek and lowly, on high may dwell with thee.

Greeting and Opening Prayer Eternal God, by Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit you gave to your apostles many excellent gifts. Give your grace to all servants of your church, that we may with diligence and faithfulness fulfill our various ministries. 14 Calling on God Psalm 36: 5-10 Your steadfast love, O Lord, extends to the heavens, your faithfulness to the clouds. Your righteousness is like the mighty mountains, your judgments are like the great deep; O Lord, humans and animals you save! O God, how precious is your steadfast love! all people may take refuge in the shadow of your wings.

Calling on God Psalm 36: 5-10 They feast on the abundance of your house, and you give them drink from the river of your delights. For with you is the fountain of life; in your light do we see light. O continue your steadfast love to those who know you, and your salvation to the upright of heart!

Old Testament Reading Jeremiah 1:4-10

Now the word of the L ORD came to me saying, “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you; I appointed you a prophet to the nations.” Then I said, “Ah, Lord G OD ! Truly I do not know how to speak, for I am only a boy.” But the L ORD said to me, “Do not say, ‘I am only a boy’; for you shall go to all to whom I send you, and you shall speak whatever I command you.

Do not be afraid of them, for I am with you to deliver you, says the L ORD.” Then the L ORD put out his hand and touched my mouth; and the L ORD said to me, “Now I have put my words in your mouth. See, today I appoint you over nations and over kingdoms, to pluck up and to pull down, to destroy and to overthrow, to build and to plant.”

Gospel Reading Luke 2: 36-38

There was also a prophet, Anna the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher. She was of a great age, having lived with her husband seven years after her marriage, then as a widow to the age of eighty-four. She never left the temple but worshiped there with fasting and prayer night and day.

At that moment she came, and began to praise God and to speak about the child, Jesus… She spoke to all who were looking for the redemption of Jerusalem.

2. Jesus, we adore you, lay our lives before you; how we love you. 2

New Testament Reading (CEV) Galatians 5:22-25

God’s Spirit makes us loving, joyful, peaceful, patient, kind, faithful, gentle, generous and self-controlled. There is no law against behaving in any of these ways. And because we belong to Christ Jesus, we have killed our selfish feelings and desires. If we live by the Spirit, let us also walk by the Spirit.

THANKSGIVING AND COMMUNION Service Of Word and Table I (Great Thanksgiving) The Lord be with you. And also with you. Lift up your hearts. We lift them up to the Lord. THE GREAT THANKSGIVING

Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right to give our thanks and praise.

It is right, and a good and joyful thing, always and everywhere to give thanks to you, Father Almighty, creator of heaven and earth.

You formed us in your image and breathed into us the breath of life. When we turned away, and our love failed, your love remained steadfast.

You deliver us from captivity, made covenant to be our sovereign God, brought us to this time and place. And through Jesus…you offer us new life, renewed life, transformed life.

And so, with your people on earth and all the company of heaven we praise your name and join their unending hymn:

Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might, heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest.

Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest.

Holy are you, and blessed is your Son Jesus Christ...

By the baptism of his suffering, death, and resurrection you gave birth to your church, delivered us from slavery to sin and death, and made with us a new covenant by water and the Spirit.

On the night in which he gave himself up for us, he took bread, gave thanks to you, broke the bread, gave it to his disciples, and said:

“Take, eat; this is my body which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me.”

When the supper was over, he took the cup, gave thanks to you, gave it to his disciples, and said:

“Drink from this, all of you; this is my blood of the new covenant, poured out for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins.

Do this as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me….”

And so, in remembrance of these your mighty acts in Jesus Christ, we offer ourselves in praise and thanksgiving as a holy and living sacrifice, in union with Christ’s offering for us,

as we proclaim the mystery of faith. Christ has died; Christ is risen; Christ will come again.

Pour out your Holy Spirit on us gathered here, and on these gifts of bread and wine.

Make them be for us the body and blood of Christ, that we may be for the world the body of Christ, redeemed by his blood.

By your Spirit make us one with Christ, one with each other, and one in ministry to all the world,

until Christ comes in final victory and we feast at his heavenly banquet.

Through your Son Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit in your holy church, all honor and glory is yours, almighty Father, now and forever. Amen.

THE LORD’S PRAYER Service Of Word and Table I (The Lord’s Prayer) And now, with the confidence of children of God, let us pray: Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven.

Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us.

Save us from the time of trial, and deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours now and forever. Amen.

Eternal God, we give you thanks for this holy mystery in which you have given yourself to us.

Grant that we may go into the world in the strength of your Spirit, to give ourselves for others,

in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
