Facts Mars is the planet after Earth and before Jupiter. It is the only red planet in the solar system. Mars has the largest volcanoes in the solar system. Olympus Mons, which is about 370 miles and 600 kilometers, in diameter, wide enough to cover the entire state of New Mexico. Individual canyons within the system are as much as 60 miles and 100 kilometers

FACTS The number of craters Mars varies dramatic From place to place, how old the surface is. Mars is much colder than Earth, in large due to it’s greater distance form the sun. The carbon – dioxide – rich atmosphere of Mars is also roughly 100 times less dense then Earth’s on average, but is never the less thick enough to support weather, clouds and winds.
