Create a T Chart and label each side with your two subjects. List as many things as you can think of that relate to each of your topics. The more the better. Go through and circle all of the things on the two sides of the T Chart that are common traits or similarities and underline all of the things that are opposite traits or marked differences. Create a thesis statement that could be used for a comparison and contrast essay: choose one aspect of your topic that would fit the scope of 1200-1500 words. Create three topic sentences that could be used to support your thesis statement. Create sentences that would support at least one of your topic sentences using the following transitions (choose 3 comparison and 3 contrast). similar toin contrast alsoon the contrary likewisehowever in the same wayconversely at the same timealthough Write a final assertion or judgment statement about your topics that gives a final impression about how you feel.

Star Wars Lord of the Rings

Thesis Statement: Although the two stories take place in very different places, a galaxy far, far away and enchanted Middle Earth, the strength of each story lies in the use of dynamic and imaginative characters. Lucas and Tolkien have created characters which are very unique yet in some ways very similar. Topic Sentences: In both Star Wars and Lord of the Rings, the antagonistic forces mass produce cloned armies to defeat the protagonists. The main villain in each story, Darth Vader and Sauron, is in some way "unwhole" due to past defeats. Each of the heroes, Luke Skywalker and Frodo, rise up unexpectedly from humble beginnings.

I n Star Wars, The Empire clones a massive army of Storm Troopers to defeat the Republic similar to the way Saruman, in Lord of the Rings, creates an army of Uruk-kai to destroy the people of Middle Earth. The villain Darth Vader is forced to wear a mechanistic suit of armor as a result of his defeat to Obi Wan Kenobi, much in the same way as the incomplete Sauron is trapped in the tower of Barad-dur after his demise at the hands of Isildur. Before he became a Jedi, Luke Skywalker lived a humble life farming with his uncle on the planet of Tatooine, likewise Frodo, the eventual ring bearer, lived a quiet, rustic life in the Shire. The Storm Troopers used by The Empire are a highly disciplined army that sticks to protocol and decorum, in contrast to the Uruk-kai who are savage band of killers raiding and pillaging at will. Darth Vader eventually turns from the Dark Side, reuniting with his son Luke, whereas Sauron is a being of true evil throughout his long existence. Luke Skywalker eventually comes to grips with his role as a Jedi and hero of the Republic, conversely Frodo never really fully comes back from his ordeal over destroying the ring.

Final statement/judgment: Although the characters found in Star Wars and Lord of the Rings have many similarities and differences, ultimately it is Tolkien's use of a complex back story and unique mythology that creates a greater connection and sense of empathy. I highly recommend anyone to explore these fantastic worlds, but in my opinion, Lord of the Rings has a greater lasting impact on its audience.
